Description
This wooden spinning wheel was made about 1885 by an expert wood turner who lived in Swift Falls. Mrs. Nels S. Dalager used it for 45 years. It is painted blue with red trimming. It is 35 x 35 inches. The wheel has 12 spokes and is 24 inches in diameter ans 1 inch wide. The distaff is missing on this spinning wheel. The treadle by which the wheel is turned is 10 inches long with the right side extended about 4 inches. It is connected to the wheel by a wooden rod which is 22 inches long. There are 3 legs. The spindle holder is not strung. It is 7.5 inches long. The flyer has 8 hooks on each arm. It is completely removable. It is held in place by two pieces of rubber. The knob on the top of the main piece can regulate the position of the spindle.
Writing on the bottom of the treadle reads: "Denne Rokken tilhorte Susanna Christine Kjo Dalager 6/22/185- 1924 Nov. 8 Used on the farm in Barsness Township for over 45 years. George Dalager 8/14/53"
