Description
Crazy quilt. The quilt is 59" x 58". It was embroidered by Kate B. Sevey with names of Kenyon settlers of early 1880s. There are sixteen squares that are 14 1/2". Each square has a tie in the center and close to each corner. The quilt is composed primarily of velvet, satin and silk. There are also cotton and faux fur fabric pieces. There are stitched flowers throughout the quilt. Some squares have painted pink and white or red flowers with green leaves.
Square 1 has the names L Selane, S Selane, G Nelson. Almost all of the fabric is gone in the lower left corner. Square 2 has the names C H Carlson, J Carlson, S Stales. Square 3 has the names C L Brusletten, T R Bullis, J P Oakey, J F Kendall. Square 4 has the names J K Groven, J A Hansen, A Ness, and a cloth fan pattern in the corner. Square 5 has the names P H Bradley, N J Bolke, W N Levey, H L Levey M D, C W McReynolds (painted). Square 6 has the names L B Levey, M N Tripp, R Jones. There is a pink stitched shaving mug and a straight edge razor. Square 7 has the names Dr A W Hewitt, J A Brown, H J Loud. Square 8 has the names F W Pattridge, C H Tripp, J Kahler. It has a small light blue stitched fan. Square 9 has the names A C Gunderson, J Gunderson, S Luce, and a small fan in silk velvet. Square 10 has the names John C Rapp, S Olson, P L Berg (painted), and a traced name continuing from square 10 into square 11, A E Slee. There is a stitched dark blue lady with a hat holding a basket. Square 11 has the names C W Addams, Stevie Bullis, C W Blodgett. Square 12 has the names O J Landsverk, A J Story, W M Grant. There is a stitched white anchor with green. Square 13 has the names G Millie, J A McReynolds, L A McReynolds, and traced is the name F D Blinn. Square 14 has the names F W Blanding, G Brandes, H Pfile, and traced is the name J W Smallidge. There is a fan. Square 15 has the names K Bergum, F Cain, O A Osdal, C A Everhard. Square 16 has the names D LaC Stanton, Dr Woodmanee, - H Overholt MD, W M Gilbert, and the traced name H H Blinn. In the lower corner is a 5 1/2" long x 1 3/4" wide label which has been hand-sewn. It says in blue ink "Mrs William Allred Rush City Minn".
The back is a newer? orange, red, cream, tan and green checkered flannel. A dowel sleeve is sewn on the back. Some fabrics are badly frayed.Geographic Notes
