Description
Cap, Garrison: American Legion Post 54 cap. It is navy blue wool and is garrison style. It is 11" long. The brim folds up 2 1/2" in the front and 3" in the back. The front of the brim crosses over from the left to the right. The top of the brim has yellow piping. On the left side brim towards the front is a yellow embroidered "RED WING, MINN.". Above it is the American Legion emblem. It is an embroidered circle. (Light brown center with a dark brown star in the center with a circle inside it with "US" and laurel leaves around the star. Around the brown area is a thin yellow border, then a blue border with "American Legion" in yellow, then a yellow jagged border.) On the rigtht side brim towards the front is a yellow embroidered "54". The cap is lined with gold rayon? Around the bottom inside is a 1 1/4" wide leather band. There is a brown cloth ribbon bow at the back of the band. On the band is a black size sticker with a gold outline and gold "7 1/4". Stamped on the band in black is "EMBLEM DIV./NATIONAL HEADQUARTERS/THE AMERICAN LEGION/INDIANAPOLIS". Condition - Good. MOLD - The cap had mold. It was laid out to dry and was vacuumed on 1/11/2006.

Worn by Dr. Myron W. Smith of Red Wing. He was a Captain in the Medical Corps at Camp Custer, Michigan. Joined the service August 23, 1918.
