Jacket: World War II Coast Guard Auxiliary dress blue jacket. The jacket is navy blue wool. It has a notched collar. There are four gold metal closure buttons with an eagle standing on an anchor with laurel leaves underneath and a braided edge. The bottom button is smaller. There is a gold Coast Guard Auxiliary emblem pin on each collar (A circle with crossed anchors behind it. In the circle is "UNITED STATES COAST GUARD 1790". In the inner circle is "SEMPER/PARATUS" with the national shield). There is a breast pocket on each side with a flap and button (button same as closure ones). There is a lower patch pocket on each side with no flaps. On the upper right arm is a rank patch. On a navy blue wool rectangle shape with a pointed bottom patch is a white embroidered eagle on a red arc. Under the arc are two white crossed anchors and below are are three red v chevrons (Chief Petty Officer - Chief Boatswain Mate). On the lower right arm is a small navy blue wool square patch with a white embroidered national shield. There is a back vent. On the back top sides, the fabric overlays by the shoulders and arms (bi-swing back). The inside is lined with black rayon? There is a hanging loop. There is a lit pocket on the inside right. On the outside of the pocket is a white label with black "(anchor) U.S. COAST GUARD/(anchor) Name L-R-BEEMAN (name in pencil)/Rate C.B.M. (in pencil)". On the inside of the pocket is a white label with black "Clipper Craft/Clothes/Mr. ______/Date T 16-C.G. 2130 (written in purple)/Lot 461 2 (in purple)/Size 38 (in purple)". There is another white label with black print. On the left side is "UNION MADE/SUIT" "ISSUED BY AUTHORITY OF/AMALGAMATED CLOTHING/WORKERS OF AMERICA". On the right side of the label is "MADE IN/U.S.A. SAI". In the center is a diamon with a sewing machine with "REC/ION" and "GENERAL EXECUTIVE/BOARD". In red in the center of the label is "627537" Condition - There are a few light stains. MOLD - The jacket had mold. It was laid out to dry and was vacuumed on 1/5/2006.
Worn by Lynn Beeman. He was a Private First Class in the army in World War I and served in Europe. He was a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary during World War II. He likely did not live in Goodhue County during his time of service in World War I. According to his obituary, he was born in Iowa. After World War I he lived in Zumbrota, then moved to Wabasha, and in 1936 he moved to Red Wing.
