Description
Flag: World War II Service Flag for Prairie Island. The flag is cotton. It is approximately 56 3/4" long x 33" wide. The flag has a red background. There is a white rectangle center that is 23 1/4" long x 10 5/8" wide. There are cotton five point stars sewn on the white rectangle on each side. Starting from the top there is one blue star, then 2 blue stars, 1 yellow star, 2 blue stars. There is a 1" - 1 1/4" wide white hoisting edge at the top with a gold metal grommet at each end. Condition - There are brown stains and white paper residue on the white area. There is white residue and a small hole on the red to the right of the top white section. The red around the white area is badly faded. There is a hole at the bottom. The stars are faded on one side. There are light black stains on the red. The flag was taped closed with masking tape. There is a small area of fabric along the edge that came off with the tape. There are some sticky areas where the tape was. The flag was framed by Frank Chesley in September 1993. The frame was thrown away at a later date.

Each star represents a person serving in the military. A gold star represents a person who was killed.
