From earlier PastPerfect description: "Telescope in a case (an extra eyepiece included). Had belonged to Carl Berquist, Vasa. Carl Bergquist lived in a shack in the woods, a tailor by trade. Carl was born in Farlof, Kristianstad Lan, Skane, Sweden on 1 February 1842 and died in Vasa MN 27 June 1925. Educated in Sweden, he served in the Swedish Army, where he learned his trade as a tailor and furrier. Later, in Vasa, he lived in a small hut in the woods north of town and raised ginseng as a money crop.

According to his obituary, Berquist was in the Swedish army for 12 years, then moved to Denmark and was employed as a sailor for 20 years. He came to the U.S. in 1878, landing in Boston and coming to White Rock by foot. Later he lived in Vasa.
