Description
Goodhue County Fair Ribbon--Champion 1920. Purple colored ribbon. In gold lettering is Champion Premium Goodhue County fair Zumbrota Minnesota 1920."

Minor wear These prize ribbons were won by Mr. George Pagel (1887-1971) for his open class livestock entries in the county fair. Mr. pagel farmed around the Zumbrota area. He was a breeder of purebred Holsteins and Durocs who began showing at the fair as a way of boilding up his stock quality. Since the years Mr. Pagel was exhibiting at the fair, some changed have taken place. There is as of 1985 very little open class livestock exhibiting; also, prize ribbons are no longer dated. 19 of the 21 ribbons were mounted and framed for display with the "Till the Cows Come Home" photo exhibit on the county fair experience. Jane Mercer's mother married George Pagel in 1918; she saved everything; she took pride in her husband's accomplishments and so saved his fair ribbons. Ribbons and information collected by Patrice Marvin and Nicholas Vrooman for the County Fair Projects 1985.
