Description
Pants: World War II Naval Air Force pants. The pants are forestry green wool. The fly closes with a zipper and one olive green plastic button on the top outside fly and one on the top inside fly. There is a spare button on the inside to the left of the top of the fly. There are 8 belt loops. There are two olive green plastic 3/4" buttons on the center back. There is a watch pocket on the right side, side pockets, and a back pocket on each side with no flaps. The inside waistband, fly, and pockets are lined with olive drab rayon. The inside bottom right pocket is cream cotton and the bottom left pocket is olive drab cotton. Stamped in black on the inside right fly is "77CU/2010x6". On the back side of the right front pocket inside lining stamped in black is "151 x 3". On the right front pocket inside lining is stamped in black "J1551B". On the watch pocket inside lining is a white label with black "Mr ROBT W HAYMAN (typed)/Date 4-9-42 (?) (typed). The typing is very faded. Condition - There are worn spots on the cuff line. The pockets are ripped and mended. There are a few faint white spots on the fly and crotch (mold?). MOLD? - The pants may have had mold. They were frozen from 5/15 - 5/17/2007 for 49 hours, and from 5/18 - 5/19/2007 for 68 hours. They were vacuumed on 5/22/2007.
Worn by Robert W. Hayman. He was born and grew up in Red Wing. He was a lieutenant in the Naval Air Force (United States Navy Aircorps). He served from August 1941 - September 1946 in the Atlantic and Pacific. His obituary states "He started military service in the Navy as an aviation cadet, ending active service and reserve services as a lieutenant and flight instructor. During World War II from 1941-46, he served as a carrier pilot in Guam, Hawaii, Leyte Gulf, Guadalcanal, Tripoli and Kassan Bay. He received honors for sinking a Nazi sub off the Azores."
