Jacket, Pea: World War II - Post World War II Navy pea coat, original issue. The pea coat is navy blue wool. It is double breasted and has a pointed collar. Under the neck is a rectangle wool detachable flap that buttons with a small navy blue plastic button with an engraved anchor. On each side of the closure are 5 large navy blue plastic buttons with an engraved anchor. There are button holes on each side. There is a vertical slit pocket on each side. The pockets are lined with cream corduroy. There is a back vent. The inside is lined with navy blue rayon. There is a hanging loop. Inside is a slit pocket on the upper right and lower left. Below the right pocket is a white label with a black anchor in each top corner and black "MANUFACTURED BY/NAVAL CLOTHING FACTORY/Name Richard Lee Johnson(written)/Rate 1/6(?) ? ? (written) ". Condition - The lining is riped on the lower right side along the edge. There is a square wool patch on the lower right side by the opening. There is a worn spot on the back collar. There are no stains. MOLD - The coat had mold. It was laid out to dry and was vacuumed on 1/11/2006.
Worn by Richard Lee Johnson of rural Red Wing. He served in the Navy. He was in active service during World War II from 14 February 1945-14 July 1946 as a Seaman Second Class. He was a Radio Technician, Petty Officer Second Class. He was discharged from full time duty as an Electronics Mate, Second Class. He was in inactive reserve 14 July 1946-14 July 1950. His training was at Great Lakes Illinois Boot Camp.
