Description
"Twenty-two inches long by 14 inches wide, this basket with open sides, half oval ends and a double handle used for wood. It is made from the shades of willow; the light willow comes from the third layer of bark; the brown willow is stained from a mixture of second layer green willow bark which is combined with other materials for the tobacco the Indians smoke. The design is a circular one, carried out by the dark willow. The basket was made by the Turtle Mountain Indians of North Dakota, a tribe very close to the Canadian line. These Indians make only sturdy, practical baskets for home use."
