Papers relating to Nicholas (Nic) and Margaret Steinmetz Sand and Margaret Sand Turner and John Russell Turner. Nicholas Sand was born on April 1, 1863 on a farm in Eagle Creek, where he grew up and lived as a young man. On September 17, 1893 Sand married Margaret Steinmetz of New Market. The couple resided in Spring Lake where Sand worked as a farmer. Sand died of heart disease on October 9, 1926. Sometime after his death his widow, Margaret Sand, married John Russell Turner at St. Mark's Catholic Church in Shakopee.
The paper group includes the following:
-Three receipts from the Scott County Treasurer's Office for property taxes received from Nicholas Sand in 1898, 1899, and 1905.
-Printed and handwritten receipts issued to Nic Sand from M. Berens & Son, Costello Hardware, A. F. Wandschneider Blacksmith and Wagonmaker, Interior Lumber Co., Kohls & Berens, Deering Harvester Co., J. C. Marx, Opera House Hardware Store, Ries & Hartmann Meats, and Schroeder Brickyard dated 1893-1908.
-Handwritten genealogy notes of past Steinmetz and Turner family members (along with others) undated and 1943.
-Undated envelope addressed to Nicolaus Sand at Shakopee, Route 2.
-"Swamp-Root Almanac" from 1936 advertising H. H. Strunk & Sons of Shakopee.
-"Swamp-Root Almanac" from 1940 advertising Mathias A. Deutsch, Pharmacist of Shakopee.
