Combination of personal and business papers collected by the Scott County Historical Society/Minnesota Valley Restoration Project when the two entities were a single organization. The papers were catalogued by the MVRP and then deaccessioned and transferred to the SCHS. The papers consist of items relating mainly to people and businesses in Shakopee and Jordan. The record group contains the following:
-Envelope addressed to John M. Hentsch of Jordan from Cudahy Packers Station in Kansas City, Kansas dated December 29, 1931.
-Envelope with a handwritten address to Mr. Edward T. O'Brien of Shakopee dated February 1931.
-Oversized envelope addressed to H. H. Strunk & Sons at Shakopee from the Northwestern Drug Company of Minneapolis dated April 1933.
-Receipt from the Shakopee Argus to John Schwartz dated January 1870. The receipt was for a newspaper subscription, the publication of a business ad, and miscellaneous goods.
-Tax receipt issued to Michael Schwartz by the Scott County Treasurer's Office, 1871.
-Tax receipt issued to E. Smiley by the Scott County Treasurer's Office, 1870
-Tax receipt issued to John Schwartz by the Scott County Treasurer's Office, 1868.
-Receipt issued to John Schwartz of Shakopee by Hirshkind, Adler, Parker & Co. of New York for unknown merchandise. Undated, appears to be 1870s.
-Receipt from the Scott County Judge of Probate, Nicholas Meyer, to John Klinkhammer for mortgage and deed payments on land in Shakopee, December 13, 1901.
-Receipt issued to Joseph C. Klinkhammer from the Minneapolis Percolator Company for payment of $25 for two shares of the company's stock, May 1908.
-Receipt issued to Joseph Klinkhammer by J. R. Kingman and the Bank of Commerce for an interest payment. Undated, appears to be circa 1903.
-Receipt issued to the Estate of John Klinkhammer from The Hanover Fire Insurance Company of New York stating the company's local office in Shakopee had paid $725 to the estate on March 14, 1924.
-Receipt from M. J. Berens & Son, 1919.
-Receipt issued to Alex Engelman by H. H. Strunk & Son for oil, lead, turpentine, paint, paint brushes, and so on, 1888.
-Blank receipt from Kennedy-Suffel Drug Co. in Minneapolis, undated.
-17 receipts issued to Louise Corman by the Independent Order of Foresters, dated 1923-1929.
-Insurance policy between The Hanover Fire Insurance Company and John Klinkhammer to cover frame buildings, a barn, and household items issued November 1923.
-Two promisorry notes between Joseph Klinkhammer of Shakopee and the Mutual Paint Company of St. Paul for goods, 1923.
-Prescription issued to Dennis Bradly by Dr. Charles Lord of Shakopee, undated.
-59 prescription slips from H. H. Strunk & Son, Druggists and Apothecaries, City Drug Store, Shakopee. Each slip is numbered with the prescription written out by hand. Each is signed by the doctor and lists who the prescription was made for. All are dated 1874.
-9 checks written by John Schwartz, who banked at the First National Bank of Shakopee. Two checks are written out to himself, two are written out to others (names are illegible), and the rest are blank. Date between 1868-1871.
-Stock certificate for 2,000 shares issued to Frank Klinkhammer by The Baker Steam Motor Car and Manufacturing Company, July 20, 1925.
-Stock certificate for one share issued to Frank Klinkhammer by The Baker Steam Motor Car and Manufacturing Company, July 25, 1925.
-Letter addressed to Mrs. Louise Carman at 219 West Fifth Street, Shakopee from James Hawley, an attorney in Boise, Idaho. It discusses the transfer of stocks from The Baker Steam Motor Car and Manufacturing Company to Mrs. Carman, 1955. (Last name should be Corman).
-Receipts and statements issued by H. H. Strunk & Son for goods purchased at their store. Most pages are handwritten on formal business statement but a number are handwritten on various pieces of scrap paper. Goods purchased include building supplies, medicine, school supplies, alcohol, paper, foodstuffs, and so on. Buyers include businesses and individuals such as Shakopee City, Henry Hinds, Abner Riggs, Bierlein Bros., Thomas Flood, the Shakopee Argus, and so on. Date between 1870-1930.
-Ledger page, most likely from H. H. Strunk & Son, from 1873. Handwritten on the page are individual names with dollar amounts.
-Two letters from The National Hotel in Shakopee from 1888.
-Letter from Michael Baltas at Saint John's College in Collegeville, MN to H. H. Strunk and Sons, March 1881. The letter apologizes for Baltas not paying his bill. He then asks the store to send him ledgers, journals, pens, and ink to an address in Stearns County. Baltas explained that he was going into business and would promptly pay Strunk for the goods by June 30, 1881.
-Decree of Descent of Lands issued by the Scott County Probate Court. The piece discusses the division of lands owned by John Klinkhammer amongst his children, April 1920.
-Warranty Deed between George W. Allen and Edward T. O'Brien for land in Glendale Township, 1899.
-Warranty Deed between Thomas O'Brien and Edward O'Brien for land in Glendale Township, 1890.
-Quitclaim Deed between Henry Unze and John Klinkhammer for land in Shakopee, 1920.
-Warranty Deed between Robert Smiley and Luther Brown for land in Shakopee, 1864.
-Title issued by the North American Savings Loan and Building Company of St. Paul to J. H. J. Klinkhammer stating that the promisorry note on his mortgage had been satisfied, 1896.
-Business card for Flaherty & Lies, General Merchants in Shakopee, undated.
-Petition addressed to the Shakopee Common Council from citizens in Chanhassen and Shakopee stating that the road between the two cities was in such poor condition that it was impassable. It further asks the city of Shakopee to repair the road on both sides of the Minnesota River so that residents in Chanhassen could travel to Shakopee to trade. Dated May 19, 1870.
-Letter addressed to Leo A. Ketterer from the Scott County Agricultural Society dated August 27, 1903. The letter invites Ketterer to attend the Home-Coming Festival, which was held the second day of the Scott County Agricultural Fair at Shakopee. It is signed by J. A. Ring, Mayor of Shakopee and J. H. Moore, President of the Scott County Agricultural Association.
-Financial statements from St. Mark's Catholic Church dated 1911-1912, 1913-1914, 1918-1919, and 1940-1941.
-Handwritten list of receipts showing money earned by St. Mark's Catholic Church, 1941.
