Personal and business papers related to the George A. and Frances (Schoch) Strehlow family and their three sons, Donald, DeWayne and George M. Strehlow. George A. Strehlow was born in Shakopee on January 2, 1893; his parents were August Strehlow and Bertha Kress Strehlow (August emigrated to Shakopee from Pommern, Germany and died in September 1940. Bertha was the daughter of William and Hannah Kress of Shakopee). George A. Strehlow joined the U. S. Army in June 1916 and served guard duty along the Mexican border. After the U. S. entered World War I, Strehlow was assigned to Company B, 102nd Machinegun Battalion. He served on the Western Front until October 26, 1918 when he received shrapnel wounds and was hospitalized and then discharged. He worked for many years at the Shakopee Foundry. Frances Schoch was born in Minneapolis on November 17, 1897. Her parents were John and Mary Schoch. The family moved to Shakopee in 1898 and operated a Hupmobile dealership. George A. and Frances were married on April 15, 1920. They had nine children but only the three boys survived. George A. Strehlow died of a heart attack in 1934. Frances Strehlow died in 1969. Donald Strehlow was born on April 28, 1922. He graduated from Shakopee High School in 1940, served with the Army Air Corps. during World War II from 1942 - 1946, and worked as a bottler for Jacob Ries Bottling Works, Inc. He died in 1995. DeWayne Strehlow was born on August 2, 1923. He graduated from Shakopee High School in 1942, served in the Army during World War II, and worked for Shakopee Ford, Gambles Store and as caretaker of Valley Cemetery. He died in 2011. George M. Strehlow was born on March 29, 1928. He graduated from Shakopee High School in 1947, served in the Army during the Korean War, and worked for Continental Machines in Savage. He died in 2007. The sons never married and the family lived at their longtime residence at 603 East First Avenue. They attended Shakopee schools, worked for local businesses, banked at the First National Bank of Shakopee, were actively involved in local VFWs and Legions as well as the Evangelical and Presbyterian churches in Shakopee.
