Description
United States Navy dress uniform hat owned by Myrna Westphal of Belle Plaine. The crown of the hat is white cotton with a stiffened black cotton brim. The facing sides of the brim curve upward. Seen around the base of the crown is a black cotton trim. At the facing center of the trim is a round black leather board with a gold and silver metal pin. The pin is an anchor with the initials "U.S.N.". Also seen around the brim is a black patent leather chin strap secured with gold metal buttons. Adhered to the underside of the brim is a name tag with maker's marks. "Westphal" is handwritten on the tag. "B" is the hat's white cotton rain cover.
