Description

Commemorative medal issued to Harriet Schmitt by the American Legion. The medal consists of a red, white and blue striped satin ribbon. Looped through the ribbon is a single metal chain link. Suspended from the link is a pressed bronze medallion. The medallion is shaped like an open book with a banner at its facing top edge and olive branches at its facing bottom edge. At the facing center of the book is an enamel emblem for the American Legion Auxiliary. A pin clasp is adhered to the backside of the ribbon. The medal was awarded to Schmitt in the eighth grade for scholastic achievement.
