Description
World War II service medal awarded posthumously to Raymond Dahl of Shakopee. The piece is an Air Medal. The top of the medal consists of a blue and orange striped silk ribbon. Seen at the back of the ribbon is a metal clasp closure. Attached by a link at the bottom of the ribbon is a bronze medallion. Embossed on the obverse is a sun with an eagle at its center. The eagle has lightning bolts in its talons and appears to be dive bombing. Dahl served as a crew member with the Army Air Corps. His plane was shot down over Berlin during a bombing mission and he was officially declared MIA on March 18, 1945. The medal was awarded to the Dahl family, upon their request, in 2007.
