Description
World War II service medal awarded posthumously to Raymond Dahl of Shakopee. The piece is a European-African-Middle Eastern campaign medal. The top of the metal consists of a striped silk ribbon in brown, green, white, red, blue, and black. Seen at the back of the ribbon is a metal clasp closure. Attached by a link at the bottom of the ribbon is a bronze medallion. Embossed on the obverse is an image showing soldiers, sailors, boats, and an airplane. Text at the facing top reads "European African Middle Eastern Campaign." Embossed on the reverse is an eagle perched on a stand with the text "1941/1945/United States of America." Dahl served in the Army Air Corps. His plane was shot down over Berlin during a bombing mission and he was officially declared MIA on March 18, 1945. The medal was awarded to the Dahl family, upon their request, in 2007.Geographic Notes
