Above the inscription is the small aluminum bar adhered to the black metal base. The bottom of the base has a typed label that has been adhered and epoxied, and framed in black felt. The label consists of two paragraphs which read, "Sample from a bar of the purest aluminum ever produced. Because it is an extremely good conductor, this material may some-day carry great amounts of power to the Nation's cities now suffering from acute shortages of electricity. This unique sample resulted from a cooperative effort of NBS scientists and specialists from American industry. It is so difficult to produce that only about one kilogram has been prepared to date."
