Description
Certificate appointing Harold M. F. Irgens First Lieutenant in the Fourteenth Regiment of the Minnesota State Militia January 27, 1863. It is signed by Alexander Ramsey, then Governor of Minnesota and Oscar Malmros, Adjutant General.

Alexander Ramsey, Governor and Commander-in-Chief of the Military Forces of the State:
To H. M. F. Irgens, Esq. of Mower County sends Greeting. Reposing especial trust and confidence in your valor, patriotism and fidelity, I have appointed you the said H. M. F. Irgens First Lieutenant in the Fourteenth Regiment of the State Militia. You are therefore by these presents appointed and confirmed as such First Lieutenant. To Have and to Hold, the said office of First Lieutenant together with all the rights, powers and emoluments to the said office belonging, or by law in anywise appertaining, until this appointment and commission has be by me or other lawful authority superseded or annulled, or expire by force or reason of any law of this State.
In Testimony Whereof, I have herunto set my Name and cause the seal of the Adjutant General of the State of Minnesota, to be affixed at the Capital of the City of St. Paul, this twenty-seventh (27th) day of January 1863, and of the state the Fifth 5th).
