Description
Bronze commemorative coin from the former USSR (A). The coin has a city scape image of Moscow with a large naval ship on the river coming in from the right hand side. The top of the coin has a Cyrillic inscription which translates to, "Leningrad Hero City." Under the inscription are four symbols for hight honor in the Soviet Union; two for the Order of Lenin, The October Revolution, and The Order of the Red Banner. The bottom of the coin has a hammer and sickle flanked by olive branches on one side and oak branches on the other. The reverse side has an image of Lenin's statue in St. Petersburg. Below the statue are flags billowing in the wind. In the background is a large Neoclassical building and some industrial smoke stacks. The coin is stored inside of a plastic case with a red bottom (B) and a clear top (C). There is an impression in the base that measures the exact diameter of the coin so that the coin does not move when the case is closed. There is also a white office label on the clear plastic lid which reads, "From Deputy Mayor of Leningrad -11/21/71."
