Description
Sailors' Palm. A fingerless leather glove that covers only the palm of the hand with a hole for the thumb. It is fitted with a brass socket protruding from the palm on layered leather. This is a thimble for mending sails. The brass thimble rested in the palm of the hand to push the needle though heavy canvas, hence the name "Sailor's Palm". It was used by Peter A. Suckesstad ca. 1850.
