Description
Black and white tintype of Mr. and Mrs. George Murphy. George was the son of Major Murphy, the Shakopee area Indian Agent, and Mrs. Murphy was a school teacher. The image is a studio portrait. Murphy is sitting in a chair. He is wearing a dark colored wool suit with a light colored shirt and Texas-style tie. His hair is curly and he has a full beard but no moustache. Mrs. Murphy is standing to her husband's left. She is resting her right hand on his left shoulder. She is wearing a dark colored dress over a light colored shirt. The skirt has a tiered ruffle pattern. The bodice is fitted at the waist and the hem of the bodice forms an inverted V. The bodice is also ruffled and the bow around her neck appears to have a floral pattern throughout. Her hair is braided and pulled back and she is wearing earrings. Seen in the background is a painted illustration of a window showing a winter scene. Small pin holes are seen at each corner of the image. Murphy, George
