Description
Steam whistle for threshing machine. The whistle was screwed into a pipe connected with the boiler. It was situated close to the fireman's area so that signals could be easily given. A series of short whistles indicated that sacks were needed. A long whistle indicated time for meals, and early in the morning the whistle blew to get the threshers out of bed. The steam entered a 1" pipe of varying length and this screwed into a steel casing with a valve. A lever, operated by someone pulling a small rope, pushes the valve inward, releasing the steam into a brass cylinder to emit loud blasts. The entire mechanism is heavy iron and brass. This one has three tones.
