"My mother was Dorothy Shaw of Hancock, MN, who lived there between 1950 and 2001 when she died 3 days after 9/11. She raised 3 children there, was a Stevens Co. social worker, ran the local library in Hancock for over 35 years, played the organ every Sunday at that local Congregation Church and belonged to every woman's club within 30 miles of Hancock, ie AAUW, Literary Clubs, PTA, Study Club, Auxiliary organizations, and church groups and Ladies Aid. Her real passion and talent was that she was a prolific knitter, She could kniw anything, anywhere, such as Barbie clothes, baby booties for each newborn at the Stevens County hospital and sweaters for her kids. I now donate some of these wool sweaters knit in the late 1950s, early 1960s, that fit me when I was in High School and weighed 150 pounds. She could knit one these men's sweaters in less than a week, while she rode in a car, watched TV, attended her club meetings or worked in the local library. I have held onto these for over 50 years and they seem in near perfect shape. They are a testament to her." - Alan Shaw, 8/1/2017
