Description
COVID-19 patient John Cowle of Anoka at Mercy Hospital window in Coon Rapids, May 9, 2020. Cowle's wife, Gwendolyn Desens-Cowle, and other family members and friends gathered on top of the parking structure across from the hospital, as they were not able to visit him in person due to the coronavirus pandemic quarantine restrictions in place at the hospital. In the first photograph, a sign reading "HI GWEN I LOVE YOU XOXO JC" is visible in the window; in the second photograph Cowle (seated) and a nurse (standing) are visible to the right side of the window looking out towards his family and friends. Photographs taken by family friend Lori Schubert.
Cowle was admitted to the ICU in April with a severe case of COVID-19, and spent nearly three weeks there on a ventilator. By May, his condition had improved enough that he could be moved out of the ICU and into the hospital's COVID-19 ward.
