Description
This khaki canvas carrying case was part of a gas mask kit that was used in World War I. It is made of heavy canvas with a 5 1/2 inch flap that can close over the top opening. There are 2 grommets in the flap that fit over metal pieces on the case. There is a 2 inch canvas strap that is long enough to fit over the shoulder. That strap has adjustment loops at each end near the attachment to the case. On the front of the case are 2 D rings attached to the front of the case with canvas loops. A long khaki cord is attached to one side of the case.
There is an instruction sheet with the canvas bag that is not attached. It is written on cardstock and labeled, "Correct use of Gas Mask Equipment." Inside the folded piece of cardstock are 3 pieces of plaster for repairing tears in the hood of the gas mask. The instruction card has a heavy khaki cardboard case that reads, "This envelope contains instructions, record card, tape for repairs." That small case measures 3" x 4".
