Description

Brass disc with small hole in top; inscribed on front "Christ Zimmerman, Morris, Minn."; possibly a civil war dog tag.

Christian Zimmerman served a term in the army, and was then hired by one Samuel Smith to serve Smith's term. Later, to collect his pension, Zimmerman was required to change his name to Samuel Smith. He posed for a statue of a soldier at Gettysburg, and a copy of the statue marks his grave in Summit Cemetery, Morris.
