Description
Wood Hudson Bay Blanket. 85 x 70" It is red with a 5" wide dark red strip near each end. There are also 4 small lines 5" long on one edge signifying that it is a 4 point blanket, an indication of the size. Four stripes indicate a blanket to fit a full size bed.
The label says "Hudson's Bay Point Blanket / Hudson's Bay Co / Made in England / Incorporated 1670". It includes registration numbers. For the US it is number 220747 and for Canada it is 1976. Donated by Merlin Peterson - purchased at the Cammi Clough auction.
The graphic design of the label on this blanket was used on Hudson's Bay blankets from 1934 - 1940. The color, "cranberry," was part of the "Imperial Tone" colors of blankets introduced in the 1930s.
