Blue "Be Kind" T-shirt. The "Be Kind" movement in the Minnewaska area was started by Margaret Pederson of Glenwood in 2018. People throughout the community came together to finger-knit a chain of kindness to spread a "Chain Reaction" of kindness. This T-shirt was part of that campaign. It was printed by Screen Prints Plus.

To the editor:
In a troubled world, what can an ordinary citizen do to make it better? That’s the question hundreds of persons are asking today. A group of interested and concerned persons in Pope County decided to present a simple answer: Be kind. They introduced their idea at a booth at the Pope County Expo on April 7.
They are asking everyone to consider operating under the opportunity, as well as the mandate, of these two powerful words: Be kind. There are proven good results. One good deed begets another.
The emerging group (desirous of growing kindness) first identified over 60 groups in the county (besides churches) that are working for the common good. The “Be Kind” movement celebrates the varied ways in which these groups practice lots of kindnesses daily. But they are thinking also of the persons who do not belong to a group and how to encourage them to practice individual kindnesses.
Beyond these groups, Be Kind is aware of the magnitude of engaging every county citizen (5 years and up ) to respect every other citizen as a human being. They know what a smile, a hug, a telephone or email message, a ride, or a meal can mean to those who are hurting, lonely, forgotten, ill, sorrowing and even those who seem to have it all together, because all of us carry some load, sometimes well hidden. It's simple. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
They ask the community to envision a large banner with the words “Be Kind” covering the whole county so loving kindness is in the very air that we breathe.
It is their hope that the loving spirit will be so strong that other communities around may want to try it, too.
