Description
Japanese lantern clock from the late Edo period. Known in Japan as "wadokei" (和時計).
It uses traditional Japanese temporal (twelve) hours, which are matched with zodiacs. It has a double foliot escapement and two small windows with revolving kanji. The clock is made of brass or bronze and has ornate floral and cloud designs throughout.
