Description
Leather table runner or antimacassar for sofa or chair back. The original subject car reads: "An ornamental cover for center table or adornment of a sofa. The top of tan leather, 18 inches square, extended by a coarsely cut fringe, 3 inches in depth on all sides. A design of green leaves and yellow blooms of the California Polly, set off by sweeping scrolls adorns the top. The back is of orange-tan leather fringed as above, plain and held to top by bands of leather laced through slots. This is from the days when leather covered our best books, the poetry book we displayed (a vanity of ours) on the center table, hung on the walls and displayed ornamentally."

The fringe on one end is actually 10" long, and 4" on the other edges. It resembles a pillow cover, but there is no opening for a pillow. The poppies are painted on and the paint is flaking off in several places. 5 of the yellow poppies have flaked off all or partially.
