Description

Gas mask from WWI inside a heavy canvas bag. The bag was to be worn around the neck by soldiers in combat. The mask has circular goggles built in for the eyes. There is a stick of "anti-dimming" material that is to be applied to the goggles. One of the goggles is damaged. It is as if the sealant leaked inside it. There are elastic straps to hold the mask over the face and eyes. A hose runs from the mask to a canister in the bag. The canisters usually contained charcoal or some other filtering agent. A small instruction book is attached that includes plaster patches for repairing the mask. This mask was used by Albert Johnsrud in World War I. He served in the Transportation Corp from 1917-1918. The initials AWJ are on the bag.
