Description
Cast iron cistern pump; cylindrical body with flaring top, spout opens off the top; base also flares in a separate piece bolted to the body; body of pump has a cover with a slotted opening in the center and a bracket at the back side; the pump handle is attached to the bracket and a rod passes through the slotted opening with a “piston” at the end; as the pump handle is moved up and down, the piston moves within the cylindrical body, drawing the water upward; traces of a bluish green paint remain under the surface corrosion. From the Tonn farm in Hodges Township. The end of the handle holding the piston rod is cracked on the right side; the gasket on the piston is severely deteriorated; the clip which holds the cover in place has broken away; pump is corroded overall.
