1Description
An iron fence wire stretcher; the body consists of a flat bar with alternating notches on top and bottom; one end has a loop to which is attached a clamp to grip the wire (clamp is now rusted in place); a cross piece of two flat bars which form a handle is riveted at right angles to two pieces, each of which has a tooth at one end; a rod is attached to the handle, running parallel to the body and passing through a slot at the end of the body; a clamp identical to the one at the end of the body is attached to the end of the rod; in use, the clamps grip the wire to be stretched; as the handle is worked back and forth, the teeth engage the notches on either side of the body and ratched their way along the body, stretching the wire.
Surfaces are pitted and corroded.
