Description
This name quilt was made in 1905 for a school benefit in District #33, Minnewaska Township. According to the donor's paperwork, the quilt was originally light blue with white embroidery. Now it appears to be a white quilt with white stitching. There are 72 blocks, each 8" square with 5 names on each. Many people wrote their names in their own handwriting for 5 or 10 cents. The names were then embroidered into the block. 3 of the blocks have no names, but read: "I slept and dreamt that life was beauty" "I woke and found that life was duty" "Minnewaska Pope County Minnesota 1905"
Ragnhild Landsrud was a teacher there at the time, her husband Gilbert Kjorstad was also a teacher in Pope County.
