Description
"Awl. This five inch, slender-pointed white bone awl was given to me [Cleora C. Helbing] by Dr. Byron Cummings who restored a prehistoric pueblo of the Greater Pueblo Period, now called Kinishba, located in Arizona. Both Dr. Cummings and his wife were good friends of mine. He took me to visit Kinishba ruins when they first started excavating, and later when part of them were restored. An awl was used to punch holes, the size of the hole depending on the size of the awl. The primitive people used this instrument to punch a hole so they could sew up a garment with sinew or skin lacings."
