1980Description
A German reproduction regimental beer stein dedicated to Bernhard Rödel. The stein commemorates his time of service in the 1. Fußartillerie-Regt., I Bayerische Armee Korps [1st Foot Artillery Regiment, I Bavarian Army Corps] between 1898 and 1900. The body is decorated with a painted scene of the artillery regiment in action. Center features Bernhard's regimental shoulder board surrounded by oak leaves, the royal Bavarian coat of arms beneath, and topped with the royal crown of Bavaria. Flags of Hessen and Bavaria appear on either side along with various parts of a German soldiers kit. The soldiers on the body are wearing blue uniforms and attend to two artillery guns. The gun on the left is a 15 cm Ring Kanone of either the C/72 or C/92 variant. On the right is a 21 cm Mörser 99. The writing on the body reads, "Wo die Kanonen donnern / und säen Tod um Tod / Da stehen wir fest and schauen / Des Sieges Morgenrot / Es lebe hoch die Krone aller Waffen / Das allergrösste Kriegesheer / kann ohne uns nichts machen" [Where the cannons thunder / and sowing death after death / We stand there and watch / The dawn of victory / Long live the Crown's weapons / The greatest army / that cannot do without us]. The bottom inscription reads, "Erinnerung an meine Dienstzeit" [A memory from my time in service]. On either sides of the handle is a list of surnames, possibly those of who served in the same regiment. The hinged pewter lid is topped with an artillery cannon resembling a 15 cm schwere Feldhaubitze 1902 with a square breechblock. When lifted up to the light, the bottom of the stein reveals a lithophane image of a nude woman resting on draped fabric.
