Description
Bag: Inricately beaded bag given to Frances Densmore. The bag has a strap decorated with beads. The bead has tassles with pink beads and blue ends. Inside of the bag was a sheet of paper printed on the paper is Memorandum November, 1953. / This bag was given to Anna by Miss Frances Densmore of Red wing, now 86 years old, who spent 50 years studying the songs and customs of the American Indians. The bag was given to Miss Densmore in 1911 by Red Fox, a Sioux Indian Chief, who 'adopted" Miss Densmore as his daughter to take the place of a daughter who had died. This was an "honorary" sort of adoption of course. She was given the name two white buffalo woman because red fox in his young days had kiled 2 albino buffalos. The bag is made of buffalo hide and sewed with buffalo sinew-thread and then the beaded pattern worked over the hide.
