Description
Wooden crate for strawberries. The two long sides of the crate are made with four pieces of wood with space in between them. The bottom is made with two pieces of wood with space between. The two short sides are made with one piece of wood. One of the short sides is covered with cream paper with a blue border. Printed in blue on top is "STRAWBERRIES". Below that is a red and white daimond with a diamond on each corner. Printed inside the diamond in blue is "KENTUCKY DIXIE AROMAS". Below that to the left is "BARGER & GOLIGHTLY / SALES AGENTS". To the right is "This Crate Contains 24 Quarts Dry Measure". Below is "TRADE MARK REGISTERED U.S. PATENT OFFICE / McCracken County Growers Association / INCORPORATED / Paducah, Kentucky, U.S.A. / GROWER:" Stamped in faded black is "R.H. MANSFIELD/1272 Route 6 Kevil KY". The box has a lid and three spacers for the boxes.

The donor writes "This crate is from 1920-40 era and was used by Mary Hegseth Johnson and her daughters to pick strawberries from a large farm patch and take the berries to Kenyon and trade for groceries at the Self Serve Grocery. Originally, the crate full of strawberries probably came from Kentucky by truck or rail to the Kenyon Grocery."
