Description
Gown: Wedding gown skirt of light blue light weight wool. It is handmade. The skirt is plain (the photo shows large bows on the skirt). The skirt closes with one large hook and eye at the back waist. There are two small eyes (one missing) to attach to the bodice. The skirt is gathered at the center back. T inside skirt is lined with light blue cotton. The bottom of the skirt is lined with cream stiff muslin. The hem is lined with 1 1/4" wide dark blue velvet. There is blue print on the inside of the lining at the bottom back of the skirt. The seams are pinked. Condition - There are large faded areas. There are small holes. There are brown stains. There is a dark brown stain on the back halfway down on the left. The waistband is frayed. The back skirt is coming detached from the waistband. There are stains on the lining. One eye to attach to the bodice is missing. Goes with 2006.76.1-2. See wedding photo 2024.002.14176 The dress was made by Mary Barsness Teigen. Donor writes "The dress was worn on September 23, 1896 by my grandmother, Mary Barsness who married Ole T. Teigen in the Dale Lutheran church in Wanamingo / Kenyon. She was born in 1877 and died in 1917 in Cannon Falls Mn, "the San" Mary gave birth to six children, three dying as infants, three growing to adulthood. They were Le Roy in Wanamingo, Janet in Minneapolis and my mother Martha Teigen Coleman in Kenyon. My mother died November 16, 2004 just after she celebrated her 100th birthday." The donor stated that Ole Teigen was a farmer. Mary Barsness Teigen's parents were also farmers. Notify the donor if the dress is on display.
