Skirt: Army Nurse Corps Dress Blue uniform skirt. The skirt is dark navy blue polyester and wool. It is knee length and is A-line. There is a left side zipper. Above the zipper are two navy blue plastic buttons, one on the inside and one on the outside. The waistband extends as a tab in the front and back left side. The front tab has a button hole for the outside button and the back tab has a woven loop for the inside button. There is a short dart on each side in the front and back. The skirt is lined with navy blue rayon? On the inside opening is a white label with black "FOREE CO/CUT 344/SIZE 10R". On the inside side is a black label with white "Foree/OF SAN ANTONIO". On the inside back left side is a large white label with black "CONTENTS: 55% Dacron, 45% Wool/"This garment is warranted to meet or exceed/the standards of specification(s) number MIL-S-40128a and/was produced under certificate number 13-1443-c from/basic material warranted by the manufacturer to have/been produced in accordance with sample under current/certificate."/Name___/CARE INSTRUCTIONS/Professional Dry Cleaning Only". Condition - There are two white marks on the front lower left corner. MOLD - The skirt had mold. It was laid out to dry and was vacuumed on 1/5/2006.
Worn by Georgene Arndt. She served in the United States Army with the Army Nurse Corps from April 1966-April 1986 and October 1990-July 1991. She served in the Vietnam War and was called up for Desert Storm. She retired with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, Army Nurse Corps. Georgene Arndt grew up in rural Goodhue/Red Wing area, about 10 miles from Red Wing. While attending Red Wing Central High School, she lived in Red Wing as a housekeeper for a widow. She graduated in 1958. She attended Fairview Hospital School of Nursing in Minneapolis and became a registered nurse. A year after nursing school she traveled to Europe.
