Description
Skirt: Gray tone rayon and wool suit skirt. The skirt is mid-calf length. It is rayon, wool, and silk with a pattern of very thin wavy diagonal lines of white and dark blue. The overall color of the suit is a gray tone. The skirt has a 1" wide waistband. There is a dart on each front side and two darts on each back side. The skirt closes down the back with a zipper and a dark blue plastic button. There is a slit pocket on each side. There is a kick pleat slit in the back bottom center of the skirt that is 9 3/4" long. The inside is lined with dark blue rayon and silk. On the inside back center under the waistband are three white labels. The top left label is a size label and has a darbk blue "14". Under it is a label with black print. On the front side is "RN 29685/49% RAYON/43% WOOL/8% SILK/EXCLUSIVE OF/ORNAMENTATION/MADE IN U.S.A.". On the back side is "TG032-40245/8058691/DRY CLEAN". To the right of it is a label with dark blue print that reads "WARRANTED TO BE A/PENDLETON/PROTLAND, OREGON". Condition - There are some faint yellow stains.

Worn by Jean Chesley. Jean Margaret Anderson Chesley was born to Alexander P. and Lydia J. Anderson on 8/2/1916 in Chicago. The Anderson family moved to Tower View Farm in Burnside Township in 1917. She graduated from Punahou High School, Honolulu in 1933. She received a BA in zoology from Carleton College in 1937. She married Frank Gunsaulus Chesley in 1938. They moved to Boston and returned to Red Wing in 1945. In 1966, she became the president of the Goodhue County Historical Society. She later served as the society's director until around 1994. From 1970-1992, she was involved with the Minnesota Historical Society as a member of the governing board, serving for 15 years as a vice-president. She was a member of MNHS's Grants Review Committee from 1977-1992. She was also a trustee of the Science Museum of Minnesota. She received the Award of Merit from the American Association for State and Local History. Jean Chesley died on 1/27/2010.Geographic Notes
