She wore a pink dress because she didn't like white. Helen Evangeline Johnson Glad (donor's mother) was born May 25, 1908 in Vasa Township. Her parents were Leonard and Maria Johnson. She taught at schools in Welch and Belle Creek. She married Oscar Bernard Glad (1/11/1902 - 6/27/1989) on March 26, 1932 in Northfield by a minister at the minister's house (Oscar's obituary said they were married in Faribault). She still taught for two years after marriage although married women were not supposed to teach. After her marriage while she was teaching, she lived with her parents on the weekends. Oscar Glad worked at the Welch Creamery when he met Helen. Helen later worked at Burnside School and quit when she had to have more schooling. She also worked at the dime store (Woolworth's), and the shoe department at the Farmer's Store in Red Wing. Oscar worked at the pottery and S.B. Foot Tanning Company. They moved from Welch to Burnside in 1936 and lived at 3859 Highway 19 (where the Riverfront Ford Dealership was). Helen died on 10/4/1974. Helen's sister Mildred Johnson Lind and her husband Frank Lind were the bridesmaid and groomsman at their wedding.
