Description
Value of balanced diet. Noel Anderson, 16, sophomore at Glenwood High School, holds the living proof of a balanced diet and the difference in food values. For a biology class, Noel, son Hjalmer & Gladys Anderson, took 10 Indian River broilers. five of them were fed cracked corn and cod liver oil, which the other five were fed a complete broiler ration. The experiment started when the chicks were two weeks old. After four weeks, the five fed cracked corn and cod liver oil weighed on the average only 0.6 pound, while the five fed the complete ration weighed 2.3 pounds on the average. The chicken on the right obviously was the one that was fed the complete broiler ration, which his scrawny mate on the left was fed cracked corn and cod liver oil. An improper diet can make a difference in humans as well, although it wouldn't be as pronounced.
