"Both statues are five inches high and dressed in traditional Sioux Indian dress. The light wood from which the statues are carved is left its natural unfinished color to represent the buckskin worn by man and woman. The Indian woman's moccasins and the cape-like neck design of her dress are painted white, as is the man's feather headdress. The figures were carved by Mr. Sauls, a full-blood Sioux student at Fort Thompson Indian School in South Dakota. He carved these figures while sitting visiting with me."
