Description
Bottle, Vaccine: Plastic bag of 5 vials of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine, administered by the Mayo Clinic Health System in Red Wing.
A clear plastic bag contains the 5 vaccine bottles. The bag is labeled with a white rectangular sticker which reads "Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine / Expires in 120 hours (5 days), once removed from ultra-cold freezer. / Refrigerated expiration: / Date 4-17-21 Time 14:50." The date and time of expiration is handwritten in red pen.
Within the bag are 5 glass & metal vaccine bottles. The bottles are each marked by printed labels. Several vials still contain a small amount of liquid in the bottom.
The Pfzier-BioNTech vaccine was manufactured in response to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) Pandemic that began in the U.S. in early 2020. These particular doses were administered to residents of Goodhue County by the Mayo Clinic Health System in Red Wing. At the time of collection, only 3 vaccines were approved for use in the U.S. (Moderna, J&J, and Pfizer). Mayo was one of the only places in the county to distribute the Pfzier vaccine. The vaccine vials were divided up and distributed to local clinics in these plastic bags. Presumably this was done at a main Mayo location (Rochester) and the boxes the vaccines would have originally been contained within were discarded there.
