Smoking pipe, probably made for bog woker. Wood bowl painted brown. Metal (tin?) cap with hinge and clasp. Bowl sits on unpainted carved wood base that curves up to connect to a hose. Hose is a tube either made of or covered in a woven material. Hose is capped with a carved wooden mouthpiece.
Donor says the pipe came from Denmark in 1901 with his paternal grandfather. It was passed on to donor's uncle, who had no children and so passed it on to the donor. According to the donor, the pipe is made to be worn on a lanyard around the neck; the pipe has a lid so no sparks would fall into the peat bog as peat fires are very difficult to put out.Geographic Notes
