Description
"Mat rug. This rectangular mat is made from cedar bark in a medium golden brown with alternating panels of dark brown and reddish brown cedar bark woven in. When the white man came in he found that cedar bark was used in clothing, bedding, and as we would use a table cloth. These mats are now made mostly by the Indians across the straits from Neah Bay, Washington. They are sold to the tourists for rugs and wall hangings. The Indians themselves use them mostly on their tables."
