Description
A square ceramic ashtray imported from Japan. The ashtray has two (2) rests for cigarettes opposite each other and depicts a man flirting with a woman. The woman is dressed in a walking ensemble resemblant to the 1890s with a low v-neckline bodice, skirt with a pink flower pattern, red fitted jacket, neck choker, straw boater hat, and matching umbrella. The man stands behind her holding his blue bowler hat before him and his cane in his arm. He is dressed in a black tail coat, red and white striped ascot, and green pin stripe trousers. Behind the man is a cupid putto who holds a bow and arrow ready to strike. Above the woman are the words "I love you" and hearts surround the scene. The only give away as to the period this ashtray was produced is the woman's hairstyle with the bumper bangs and low chignon.
