Description
"This basket is made of very fine split cane in shades of red, dark brown and natural, the colors coming from native dyes. The natural color is woven in to form the design: three parallel lines at the top and bottom of the basket, separated by a row of touching circles. It is four inches square across the bottom and 5 1/2 inches high with the cover. The entire basket and cover are double faced. There are only two tribes left in the U. S. who know the art of making double faced baskets, one of them being the Chitimacha of Louisiana who made this basket. You will notice the beautiful design and weave on the outside and also the fact that there is no design on the inside. No one can see where the weavers were started or concluded."

There are 10 plaits per inch.
